about...

Statement-

My work is informed by the pathway and history of my life. I source ideas from people, politics, environments and nature, and filter them through experience, memory or imagination. I like to engage the viewer to linger and  interact with my work to explore meaning. I have a tendency  towards allegorical content with theatrical movement and disconnected time lapses, all pictorial .

Painting has always been my focus, but drawing is the foundation of my work and the best way to think things through. I find that making three-dimensional work is a challenge and also a goal for me right now, to learn about materials and techniques from other artists who inspire me to grow.

Professional

Current pursuits:

Studio time,  art consultation, independent curator

Career Changes:

After  23 years at Maui Arts & Cultural Center http://www.mauiarts.org it is time to reinvent and explore! As Director of Exhibitions at the MACC Schaefer International Gallery,(2009-2023) I  had the honor  of working with outstanding  artists from all over the world, to curate and organize exhibitions  around their  ideas and help promote  their careers. This  enabled me to develop  public programming  and opportunities  in the arts to  elevate  the  experiences of people of all ages. Among the visual arts programs I developed:  Young Artmakers, Artworks, Curious Learners and Art=Mixx.

Teaching Artist:

For over 20 years I  have organized education programs and taught  students K - 12 ,specializing in residencies and professional development for teachers .

I am currently working with  Pōmaika'i Elementary School on Maui, teaching drawing and painting  to students, and professional development for teachers.

Art Consultation:

For direction and handling of acquisitions,  design considerations, shipping and  installation, I offer experience, expertise and connections to move a project along.
